This month I completed an experimental painting, using oils for the first time, and on a slice of Elm wood which I had gold leafed. This piece was another in the Ludwig II, this time exploring the grandeur of the Wintergarten; a huge conservatory built on the roof of the palatial Residenz in Munich. Ludwig's parrots resided here and used to terrorize the visitors and servants who worked there. I was very pleased with the outcome of this piece as it was just as I had planned and I really enjoyed painting the macaw parrots with their beautiful colouring. Oil paints were a revelation, and the water soluble ones worked well. I think I will work in them again at some point.
