2013-2014, acrylic paint and white ink and fine liner penon cartridge paper
'Winter Owl' and 'Summer Owl' are the first two in the four seasons of owl project started in 2013.
'Winter' is an image of the Barred Owl which has been painted in acrylic paints with an ink wash over areas. The background and borders were painted separately and then put together in Photoshop to form a narrow, arched frame - reminiscent of the shape of .art nouveau style prints of the late 19th century. 'Summer', the second image is of a majestic Eagle Owl which was completed in a similar way as 'Winter'. The photographed worked from was of a captive bred Eagle owl called Jack, who lives with his mate Jill, owner Jo and new little chick called JJ in Wakefield, UK.
Both of these pieces were commissioned to be printed on Shantung Silk at the Glasgow School of Art, ready for it's unveiling at Banks Mill Open Studios in November 2013 as large silk banners.
The next image to be worked on for this project will be 'Autumn' - the Barn Owl.
