The Enchanted Captive
. . . is an experimental piece using primarily UV activated paint. This is my homage to the Venus grotto that Ludwig II built within the grounds of Linderhof castle, complete with underground lake, tide machine, fake stalactites, theatrical lighting, mural and a flock of swans. A boat, fashioned on the boat of the mythical hero Lohengrin, was designed and made for the king that looked like a huge conch shell. The whole setting was a technical masterpiece.
This was one of the reasons why I wanted to incorporate a more theatrical approach to this painting and the overall effect was worth the effort. When the paint is activated under a special black light the painting glows, giving it almost stained glass quality. I think that Ludwig II would definitely approve of this piece.
