Hecate: The Goddess of Magick
This piece was the first completed of my goddess series. Hecate is one of the most ancient and powerful goddesses from Greek mythology. She comes in triple form; the maiden, the mother and the crone and is the ultimate goddess of creation and female energy. She is still worshipped today, within wiccan spirituality, where she is asked for her protection during rituals and spells.
Keys, swords, owls, snakes and poisonous flowers also are symbolic to Hecate and her arrival is sounded by the howling of dogs. She is also the goddess of necromancy and crossroads. All of these elements can be seen within my representation of the goddess, all linked together in the styling of an narrow art nouveau style panel. This image has also been laser engraved onto elm - please see the 'Other' section on the main menu to the left.
