Quan Yin: The Goddess of Mercy
This illustration is the most recent completed in my series celebrating goddesses.
Quan Yin is considered in Chinese mythology as the goddess of compassion and mercy. She emerges from a Lotus flower dressed in green and white robes, holding a willow branch and a flask containing the water of life.
She is the goddess of forgiveness who takes care of children, mothers and women in general.
My interpretation of Quan Yin sees her as stately goddess with a calming demeanour, flanked by her child acolytes and a cockatoo on her shoulder. All these elements are part of her complex story of sacrifice.
